Warrington Junior Success

20/10/2018

Warrington Town Junior Netball Club has had a magnificent start to the 2018/19 season. 31 athletes have been selected for Cheshire Netball Academy, 7 have been chosen for National Superleague franchises such as Manchester Thunder and Wasps, and one athlete makes National selection for the Scotland U17 Long Squad.

With two wins already in the Regional Senior Championships and with games about to start for all age groups in the Manchester , Cheshire County League along with the North West Regional 16 League, the club are looking forward to an enjoyable competitive season. This will be a fitting tribute to one of the clubs founder coaches, Chris Brien, who recently lost her battle with cancer.

A wonder pass from captain Jemima Dahou to Olivia Wormald allowed the winning goal to be scored in the nailbiting final of the Gala Tournament organised by Leyland Sports Trust.

Wildfire, Warrington Town Netball Club’s elite under 12s side, edged home 8-7 against Tameside in the decider thanks to Wormald’s show-stealing goal.

For the Wildfire girls it was revenge for their only defeat in seven pool games.

The club are celebrating a glorious double.

9/7/2018

WARRINGTON Town Netball Club are celebrating a glorious double.

Their senior squad entered the Manchester Thunder Adult Tournament for the first time and came home with two trophies.

The first team were in the top half of the draw for the cup competition and made good progress to the final, which they won 10-3 to win top prize.

After finding themselves in the bottom half of the draw, the second team were in contention for the Plate prize.
Like the firsts, they powered through the tournament and claimed a 12-9 victory in the final.
“The objectives of the day were to have fun, team building and to play with no pressure,” coach Yvonne Sampson said.

“This proved to be just what the players needed and we ended up doing the double.”
Maria Makin and Charlotte Hynes were picked as stand-outs for the first team, while Katie Bushell shone for the seconds.
